Sankofa CDC Workforce Development Program
Sankofa CDC is partnering with JOB1 to offer a workforce development training program focused on green infrastructure jobs. We are looking for participants who are adults 18 years or older and interested in improving their environment by taking steps to gain training and education in responsible land-use practices.
Sankofa CDC’s Workforce Development participants will receive:
- job-ready skills that will equip program participants to begin to positively mitigate environmental challenges faced within the community today.
- Real-world hands-on skills and job training in green infrastructure,
- Preparation to take the state exam to become a licensed horticulturist.
- Links and networking with prospective employers upon completion of the program.
- Hourly wage of $12 during program participation
Participants will receive training in the following:
Green Infrastructure
- Stormwater Systems
- Landscaping & Groundskeeping best practices
- Rain Gardens
Horticulture
- Plant care and management
- Native Plant Identification and Invasive Plant Removal
- Trees and Healthy Soils
Other Topics Include:
- Urban Agriculture
- Environmental Justice
- Running a Landscaping Business
The ideal candidate for Sankofa’s workforce development program is
● 18 years or older
● Must be able to lift 50 pounds
● Must be able to stand for long periods
● Must enjoy outdoors
● Must be willing to learn about native plants and wildlife.
● Must be willing to learn the proper usage of power tools
● Must be willing to learn the proper use of hand tools
● Must be willing to be punctual
● Must be respectful to yourself and others
● Must be willing to adhere to Sankofa CDC’s attendance policy
